During my four year stint in college, I generally avoided the difficult and labor intensive Communication Design classes. I had plenty difficult and labor intensive classes in my own major. After completely butchering the type on an illustration project I was paid for (it was printed on a bunch of things and distributed- yikes), I decided to take at least Type 1. I figured I could save myself from future humiliation. I'm SO glad that I did.
I had no idea how important typography was to our society...our entire world, really. I learned about horsey type and why I should avoid it. I learned to stick with the classics because I don't know enough about type to go out on a trendy limb.
I'm working on the typography for my next project (it's a big'un), and I've gotten the choices down to two.
Garamond:
ChopinScript:
I need to choose one. The practical side of me says to stick with the tried and true (and predictible) Garamond. The rest of me is completely and totally in *love* with that scripty goodness in the ChopinScript.
I think I have my answer.
P.S. I'm not oblivious to the fact that the "s" in the first example needs kerning. It's driving me crazy looking at it (even worse that I pubished it after telling you I took a type class). Oops. LOL.
